The Power of talk

Silke Communications has been around since the mid 1960s. The company owns a rapidly expanding digital radio network that serves the west coast. It also sells two-way digital radio equipment and installs and maintains it. Its towers division builds, manages and markets communications facilities.

In 2009, the company was a fraction of the size it is today, and the second generation of the Eugene-based, family-owned company was given the task of bringing the company out of its flat-lined sales pattern. But Jim Silke Jr. wasn’t content to do just that, and he sought a full-speed-ahead, multi-pronged strategy to elevate the company’s performance on many fronts, from sales numbers to geographic reach.

Verb was selected to serve Silke on all communications and marketing fronts. We function as an extension of Silke management, serving the roles of VP of marketing, PR firm, full design staff and web development. We’ve created all the big items, like the company logo, tagline (“Towers to talk”), website, and all the small pieces that support the sales staff.

Each month, the Verb and Silke team identifies its next “conquers”, and then Verb deploys to accomplish the goals. Our daily efforts include all communications strategy, media outreach, digital campaigns and newsletters, marketing support, graphic design, events management, sponsorships and more. Some efforts are short-term and directed to particular market segments, and others are long-term branding-related projects.

Silke's days of flat-lined sales are long past. The company has increased its sales, expanded into Washington and California, and opened seven branches. It has multiplied the industries in which it is an active player, and now operates in the education, public safety, construction, transportation, private fleet, ski/snow resort, hospitality, and agricultural arenas.

"There's no middle person involved, and that translates to peak work and complete efficiency. Verb really understands our business. I feel like I have my own, top-notch marketing department."

Silke conducted a broad search for a marketing communications firm back in 2009. “Silke chose Verb – and has kept them for many years – because they had a track record of working the difficult area that’s technical yet needs to be presented in a manner that compels the layperson,” says President Jim Silke, Jr. “We also liked that we were assured of having a team of seasoned professionals on our account. There’s no middle person involved, and that translates to peak work and complete efficiency. Verb really understands our business. I have my own, top-notch marketing department.”
