Silke Communications
The Power of Talk
Silke Communications has been around since the mid 1960s. The company owns a rapidly expanding digital radio network that serves the West coast. It also sells two-way digital radio equipment and installs and maintains it. Its towers division builds, manages and markets communications facilities.
In 2009, the company was a fraction of the size it is today, and the second generation of the Eugene-based, family-owned company was given the task of bringing the company out of its flat-lined sales pattern. But Jim Silke Jr. wasn’t content to do just that, and he sought a full-speed-ahead, multi-pronged strategy to elevate the company’s performance on many fronts, from sales numbers to geographic reach.
Verb supported Silke on all communications and marketing fronts for many years — until the company was sold and established an in-house marketing department in 2023. Until then, we functioned as an extension of Silke management, serving the roles of VP of marketing, PR firm, full design staff and web development. We created all the big items, like the company logo, tagline (“Towers to talk”), website, and all the small pieces that support the sales staff. Each month, the Verb and Silke leadership identified its next “conquers”, and then Verb deployed to accomplish the goals. Our daily efforts included all communications strategy, media outreach, digital campaigns and newsletters, marketing support, graphic design, events management, sponsorships and more. Some efforts were short-term and directed to particular market segments, and others were long-term branding-related projects.
Over the years, working with Verb, the company increased its sales and expanded across the West. It multiplied the industries in which it is an active player, and now operates in the education, public safety, construction, transportation, private fleet, ski/snow resort, hospitality, and agricultural arenas. When sold its value had multiplied several times over.
